That one cast you as Corvo Attano, the bodyguard framed for murdering the empress in the vaguely Victorian, plague-ridden city of Dunwall. The one that gives you goth-assassin superpowers: This one picks up years after the story of the first game. Who’s it for? Lovers of action and adventure. Of all the third-person action games shown off at E3, this one is probably the most aesthetically pleasing. Why it’s cool: The action looks amazingly fluid and the Skyrim-style environments are beautiful. This gameplay trailer shows the series’ hero Kratos with his son Charlie being attacked by monsters, teaching him to hunt and eventually spotting a dragon.

The one with the best graphics: This series used to be based in Greek mythology, but in this ‘soft reboot’ it’s heading for Norse mythology instead –although it’s still holding onto the term ‘Spartan Rage’. And the animation is almost good enough for Reedus to look like the real thing. Why it’s cool: It looks trippy and innovative, qualities often lacking in big-budget games. Strange phenomena in the trailer include: dead crabs, dead whales, handprints in the beach tar, a disappearing baby and five mysterious floating figures. Then there’s its creator Hideo Kojima, the Japanese creator and designer behind the Metal Gear series, who’s made what looks like an intensely story-based game.
